Skookum's Jump Rope Kit
Fundraiser Instructions and Suggestions
Make it a hopping success:
Hire a local jump rope team, or recruit a group of jumpers from your local schools or other youth organization to jump to the music of The Red Hot Peppers. Or enlist a local (or national!) sports celebrity. Then, invite the crowd to make their own jump ropes (check out the suggested price list on our website). Now it's time to Jump!
Plan a routine:
Here's one that works well:
- Using a Skookum double-dutch beaded rope, the team performs to the music of Red Hot Peppers. Approximately 20 minutes.
- Everybody makes beaded jump ropes. 20 minutes
- The team teaches techniques to willing participants. 20 minutes
- Start the whole routine over again!
Set the date, time and place
If you coordinate your fund-raiser with a local celebration, back to school event , or field day you'll ensure a good turnout. The time is important as well. We've found that the hours of one to three p.m. work the best. Of course, the ideal is to hold the jump roping festivities outside, but it works just as well in a gym, auditorium, or even a big hallway.
Find a Jump Rope Team
Watching a jump rope team is inspirational. To make it even more interesting, ask the team's coach to get involved. She can introduce the team members, describe their techniques, and give advice for budding jumpers (A P.A. system really comes in handy for this). Most of the teams do ask for a small fee to cover expenses. But what they love the best is the opportunity to show their stuff! Just call us when you find one, and we'll provide a free audio tape to each team member.
There's a great new surge of jump ropers popping up across the nation. To find them:
- Call your local Physical Education teachers. They'll know if the middle or high schools have a team.
- Contact the local "Jump Rope for Heart" heart Association for information (800-AHA-USA1).
Promote the event
Everybody can get involved with the promotion. Put up posters and leave flyers with local merchants and community centers. Write up a special release for your local newspaper. This fund-raiser is a great money making opportunity, and it provides upbeat publicity for your school or organization as well.
Make your own jump ropes
After the show, it's time to make the ropes. Unload your bulk beads into a large container. Place the handles in another and have ropes available. 64 beads and two handles fit on a normal 8' rope. You'll need to have scissors on hand to be able to size the ropes for the little ones.
Find the correct size
Children jump better with the proper size rope. Have the child hold the rope in his/her hands and step on it in the middle. The handles of the rope should come a little below the shoulders.
Now, you're ready to show off all you've learned and jump for joy. Hoppy Fundraising!
