It is with a deep sense of pride and a bit of sadness that the Skookum Jump Rope Company transitions from a Sheltered Workshop to a Community Employment Program.  We are committed to providing better, well rounded, individualized employment options for people with developmental disabilities.

When the Skookum Jump Rope Company began in the 1980’s Sheltered Workshops were progressive.  Ideally they were envisioned as a stepping stone for transitioning People with Severe Disabilities out of institutions. The natural next step is complete the journey for people with disabilities to employment in a fully integrated community environment.
We believe that inclusion is healthier than segregation and that inclusion in our local community is the preferred alternative to the sheltered workshop environment.

Over the next few months our dedicated staff will work with each employee to create a “person centered plan”, in which we will match each individual’s interests, passions and abilities with vocational opportunities in our town.

Our goal is to find the right employment or volunteer match for each individual.  We have a team of job developers working with both local government officials and local business to find or create suitable employment options.

We believe that completing this journey towards fully integrated employment will provide fuller, richer lives for people with disabilities and will also allow our community to share and experience the gifts and talents of these wonderful people!
